Who we are and what we do

Real Voices is a community of non-auditioned contemporary choirs in South London. Open to anyone who loves to sing, we strive to challenge expectations of what a non-auditioned choir can achieve whilst having a brilliant time in the process. Backed by our professional house band, we perform choral covers of classic pop/rock favourites, indie gems, modern alt-folk anthems and recent chart smashes.

We believe you don’t have to have musical experience in order to be musical so we welcome those who have never sung in a choir before: a heads up that we’ll work you quite hard though! All we ask is that you can sing in tune. If in doubt, ask your most honest friend!

Some of us read music, some don’t: either is fine with us. We do use sheet music in rehearsals but teach in a way that works for both readers and non-readers.

We challenge. we collaborate. we support.

And we laugh. A lot.

• We challenge ourselves to step outside our comfort zones and strive to achieve the highest possible musical standards (whilst having a great time, of course!) If you’ve got more experience and want to push yourself a little further, there are opportunities to work in smaller groups or even perform a solo.

• We collaborate not only with each other, but with other instrumentalists and artists: this is when things get even more exciting! Our headline gigs are always with our professional house band and we sometimes bring in other instrumentalists such as a saxophonist or string quartet if the music needs it.

• We support each other and embrace the fact that everyone is at a different stage in their musical journey. Our choirs have a maximum of 55 singers, maintaining an intimate feel (both musically and socially) while still creating awesome and expansive sounds. We’re small enough that every voice is important, but large enough that you won’t feel exposed.

  Our choirs have developed into welcoming communities that extend far beyond singing together once a week. Come and experience the camaraderie for yourself!

We work towards unforgettable performances with our professional house band. Our choirs often perform individually but we have the flexibility of bringing together two or more of our choirs for added impact at larger events.

In addition to producing our own gigs we’re always up for taking part in local events, festivals and fundraisers. Examples include the Lambeth Country Show, Wandsworth Arts Fringe Festival, Southbank Centre Chorus Festival, Roundhouse Voices Now, London Marathon (supporting GOSH) and carolling at the V&A museum or local stations at Christmas. Over the years we’ve raised thousands of pounds for charities chosen by our singers.
