FAQs

  • No! Our choirs are non-auditioned. However, since our arrangements have that challenging element we do have a basic requirement that you can sing in tune. If in doubt, ask your most honest friend!

  • No. Some of us read sheet music and others don’t: both are fine. Although we do use sheet music in rehearsals we teach in a way that works for readers and non-readers.

  • We know that life is busy so we allow our singers to attend a different choir up to twice each term if you let us know in advance.

Our singers commit to a specific choir as this enables the choir to develop and grow musically. This also means we can get to know each other which enables us sing better together. With the anonymity that can come with London, we love that by sticking to one choir, our choirs become tight knit communities and each person (and voice!) is important.

We make an exception to this rule for shift workers so just let us know this applies to you when you sign up for a taster session.

  • If you’d like to join the choir after your free taster, you’ll be asked to sign up for one term.

Our pricing is based on £12 per 2-hour rehearsal and we will calculate your membership fee based on how many remaining sessions there are in the term after your free taster. There are usually 13 rehearsals per term (12 weekly rehearsals plus an amazing session with our pro band).

Example: You join us for a free taster the first week of term after which there are 12 remaining rehearsals. Your membership fee will be £144 (12 x £12)

You can either do a one-off payment or split the cost over monthly payments using the trusted Go Cardless Direct Debit System. The choice is yours!

Your termly payment gives you access to:

    1) weekly rehearsals with a top MD.

    2) unforgettable performances with professional instrumentalists.

    3) interesting musical arrangements written especially for us.

    4) audio recordings to help you practise.

    5) additional performance opportunities ranging from singing carols at the Tower of London and Victoria & Albert Museum through to the Lambeth Country Show.

    6) a welcoming and active social group and wider community to be part of.

  • No - we only offer a termly subscription. The high standards and brilliant gigs we aim for just wouldn’t be possible without a certain level of commitment and continuity. It also wouldn’t provide the financial stability we require as a small business to provide the best musical experiences for you all. Paying per session is misleading as there’s so much more to being part of Real Voices than just the weekly rehearsals!

  • We work towards unforgettable performances with our professional house band at the end of every second term. This gives us long enough to learn enough new repertoire to put on a brilliant, full-length concert! At these gigs our choirs either perform individually or we bring together two choirs (that share the same Musical Director) for added impact.

In addition to producing our own gigs we’re always up for taking part in local events, festivals and fundraisers. Examples include the Lambeth Country Show, Southbank Centre Chorus Festival, Victoria & Albert Museum, Tower of London, Wandsworth Arts Fringe Festival, Roundhouse Voices Now and the London Marathon (supporting GOSH). There’s no pressure to take part in extra performances however the opportunities will be there if you’d like them!
